  10.        MediaPlayer (invoked from the command line as _m_e_d_i_a_p_l_a_y_e_r)
  11.        is a graphical tool that allows you to play back movie or
  12.        sound files.  Movie files can be created using MovieMaker,
  13.        MediaConvert, _d_m_c_o_n_v_e_r_t(_1), or MediaRecorder (see below).
  14.        Sound files may be created by the above tools, SoundEditor
  15.        or SoundTrack (multiple track sound editor).

  18.        help for more information.

  20.        The directory /_u_s_r/_s_h_a_r_e/_d_a_t_a/_m_o_v_i_e_s contains sample movies,
  21.        if the subsystems dmedia_eoe.data.movies and/or
  22.        dmedia_eoe.data.moremovies are installed.  There is an SGI
  23.        movie file, _s_o_m_e_r_s_a_u_l_t._m_o_v_i_e, and a sample QuickTime movie,
  24.        _s_a_m_p_l_e_Q_T._m_o_v. _s_t_u_d_i_o._m_p_s is an MPEG systems stream movie.

  30.           +o MediaPlayer now supports the playback of other types of
  31.             media other than movies.  This includes sound, MIDI,
  32.             and still image files.

  35.             compressed audio embedded in QuickTime movies. (IMA4
  36.             and DV-Audio)

  38.           +o MediaPlayer now has the ability to display video to the
  39.             video out jack at the same time as it is playing to

  51.        This section lists problems in the MediaPlayer software and
  52.        ways to work around them.

  54.           +o In order to play movies to video out on an O2, the
  55.             video ouput signal's Output Sync must be set to
  56.             "Internal". Failing to establish this setting will
  57.             cause Media Player to hang.  To adjust or verify the
  58.             Output Sync setting, open _v_c_p(_1), choose Pro -> Video

  75.             Signal panel choose "Internal" on the Output Sync
  76.             pulldown menu.

  78.           +o The "-S" command line flag is no longer supported.  Use
  79.             the standard X mechanism using "-geometry +X+Y".

  81.           +o MIDI playback has some problems.  If you should
  82.             encounter problems playing a MIDI file, you may use
  83.             _s_o_u_n_d_p_l_a_y_e_r(_1) instead.

  85.           +o The current SGI movie format version number is 3.
  86.             Movies made or edited with IRIX 5.1 or later releases
  87.             of Movie Maker might not play or might play incorrectly
  88.             with the IRIX 4.0.5 version of MediaPlayer  However,
  89.             the current version of MediaPlayer plays all versions
  90.             (1, 2 and 3) of SGI movies correctly.

  92.           +o MediaPlayer does not work correctly over the network.
  93.             The user interface and images will display on the local
  94.             machine, but the audio will play on the remote machine.
  95.             In addition, if you are displaying MediaPlayer from an
  96.             IRIX 6.2 or later system to an IRIX 5.3 system, you may
  97.             need to install one of the following patches on your
  98.             IRIX 5.3 system which fixes an OpenGL problem: number
  99.             450, 720, or 926.

  101.           +o MediaPlayer does not support the playback of FIT image
  102.             sequences in this release. You can work around this
  103.             problem by using MovieMaker or dmconvert to convert
  104.             your FIT images to a supported movie format.
  105.  
  106.           +o If you choose "Play Every Frame" from the "View" menu,
  107.             audio is disabled while the movie is playing.  To
  108.             restore audio, deselect "Play Every Frame."
  109.  
  110.           +o For MPEG movies only: the "Copy" command will only
  111.             provide a still image; it will not provide movie-file
  112.             or audio-file targets of the selection.
  113.  
  114.           +o MediaPlayer is not able to play certain MPEG movies
  115.             where the MPEG information starts at an offset other
  116.             than 0.  For these movies, Movie Player may hang or
  117.             crash.
